Father's Day

"Mine is a home where every hour is blessed by the strength of priesthood power," and by a husband/father who, in addition to donning a shirt and tie for his Sunday Priesthood meetings, regularly does the dinner dishes and takes out the trash.

If Wes thinks he got out of a Father's Day post in light of the gushy novel I wrote about him last week, he should know me better than that. :)

I will try to be brief, to spare him, and to spare you, kind readers. I will say simply that Wes shines in so many unseen, unheralded, mundane moments: so many Lucy-in-the-bath splashing, teary-mascara-on-his-white-shirt staining, "Could you please rub my back,"asking, "We really need to start the laundry tonight"complaining, hmmm-dirty-diaper smelling, "What do you think about..." time-consuming moments. And did I mention the trash? Don't ask me when I last took out the trash. I would be embarrassed to tell you. In short, Wes treats me like gold and our daughter like a princess.

Does he sound too good to be true? Well, I don't have much proof to offer, except to say that there's a reason why Lucy the parrot says "Hello pri-tty girls" every time Wes enters a room. And the rapture in her statement "best dad! EVER!" just might convince you that I'm not giving undeserved praise. If you're still dubious, then you ought to hear the quiver in Lucy's periodic inquiry, "Daddy? Home in a little soon?" and your doubts might be settled once and for all. Wes is a wonderful, wonderful father and an utterly helpful husband. HAPPY FATHERS DAY, my love!

And a Happy Father's Day to our dear dads (link away if you'd like!), as well! Wes would certainly claim that most of what he knows he learned from his own father (even down to the dish doing and trash out-taking...Thanks Phil!). Similarly, a thank-you to all of our good friends, those who are exemplary fathers to their own children - those who have such an appreciated influence on our child. Happy Father's Day to ALL those men who are striving to adopt the characteristics and compassion of a loving and eternal Heavenly Father. This girl is grateful for you all!

Happy Father's Day from us! Thanks for teaching Ry how to follow in your footsteps...but you can't get too good or my dad would wish you were in our family instead. Just kidding...he and Ry have bonded. And...his car is intact. Too soon for it to be funny?
