Our NyQuil New Year...
I think Wes and I went to bed on New Year's Eve around 8:15pm with a toast of our medicine cups and a "Happy New Year!" in between coughs.
Sickness notwithstanding, we had a nice week. Here are a few things that made our New Year Flues a little more bearable: The BYU Nalgene bottle Santa brought Lucy for Christmas. Couldn't have been a more timely gift! We are always hard pressed to keep that girl hydrated when she's ill (is there anything more distressing to a mother than her feverish child who refuses ALL forms of liquid?!). This fever, however, found Lucy and her "little cougar water" to be inseparable companions. Thank Heaven!
Lucy's new bed!I don't think I could have handled putting Lucy's aching little body to bed in the hard, cramped Pack'n'Play she used to sleep in (although it has served us WELL these past 2 1/2 years)! Grandpa Packer found us an almost brand new mattress at the DI for a great price!! Hooray! Every night and multiple times a day while she was sick, Lucy would very literally call for and collapse onto her new little cloud-bed. No "transition" problems whatsoever. The girl's not dumb. She recognizes comfort when she encounters it!

I love a little Vapo rub when I have the flu!! I've never tried the baby formula...have you?
Warm baths, lotion "rubs," and "Green Blankie."
Grandma who, although sporting significant injuries herself, stayed up nights and wore out days in our service. Bless her selfless little heart.
Grandpa who cooked a significant number of our meals and wiped our two year old's runny nose more times that is warranted for any grandfather. Bless his selfless little heart.
Plenty of books (for example).
Plenty of movies (for example).
And on our slightly-better days...
A little family game time.
And...
some (not enough) chatting-with-good-friends time.
Happy New Year, all! One of these days we'll hang "recovery" on a shelf and get around to "resolutions." One of these days!

I am sorry you guys got sick for New Years. That is no fun. I actually wasn't feeling too good either. I have had some sort of a cold all week long, maybe longer. I especially wasn't feeling good New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, or the day after that. Anyway, I hope you are all getting and feeling much better!
I am sorry about you holiday sickness. It seams most people I have talked to have been "blessed" with that this holiday.
I am so glad that Lucy likes her bed!
Not that you asked, but I heard that the best way to use Vicks is to put it on your feet. Did you know this? Your feet (being very connected to the rest of your body) distribute it throughout your body. Not convinced? Try this (heard this one from a senior couple): rub a garlic clove on a baby's feet (I think the smaller the better), and in the morning the baby's breath will smell like garlic. Cool, eh?
Sorry to hear that you have been under the weather. We too have had our ups and downs this week. We can tell though that when you are sick you have nothing better to do then blog. I love it, not wishing for you to be sick but hey!
Let me know what works for you to get together. I put a comment on my blog for you about that.
We've been sick-ish here at our house too. There's nothing quite like ringing in the new year with dripping noses and aching bodies. Sounds like you're all doing a little better, though, which is great. :) And how fun that Lucy's moved to a bed! Such a big girl!
I hope you guys are all feeling better now! Thanks so much for all your recommendations for great books!
We've used the infant/toddler/little people vapor rub formula and it works just as well as the adult stuff. Love it!
I hope you all feel better soon! It is no fun to be sick. Let me know if you try the vicks on the feet. When I was so sick I had two people tell me to try that, but I never did. I would love to know if it works.
Oh, the flu is the worst! But it looks like you guys pampered your way through it with Vicks Rub and warm baths! And Heather's right, it works really well to put the rub on your feet (or your kids) and then put on socks. And for coughs, you can put some apple cider vinegar in the humidifier... smells terrible but helps clear up croup. Just a tidbit.
Oh that stinks! ditto to the vicks on the feet... totally works! hope you're feeling better!
love that everyone is feeling better and blogging and changing blogs for 08 and getting reconnected again after the holidays. I still ache to talk to you more and am completely jealous of your time with the Seversons and Michelle (sorry Heath, you can hit me later :)
Going to try that vicks on the feet thing on Grandpa! Is there enough Vicks for that?
So glad you are feeling better and so sad that you had to take that home with you from us.
So grateful you have such good parents to take care of you and Wes and Lucy!
Love that little Goldie Locks! Forgot to send her Mother Goose Book home with her!
Love you!
Oh no, it's the pits being sick! I hope you make a quick, full recovery!! But the good news is you guys have cute feet...I like the new look!
