For Lucy

Our friend Jeanine tagged me to tell about the origins of your name.
The whole topic is nostalgic of days that seem so long ago. Days when your dad and I sat on our old striped couch singing Norwegian lullabies to the little lump of belly where you were concealed for nine months. Days when we missed complete sacrament meeting talks at a time as we sat in church giggling, whispering, marveling at your movements, blatantly visible in the contortions of my middle.

We threw a lot of girl names around. We were fond of Eleanor and Eva. We loved Anna. But we kept coming back to Lucy.

It was so like your Grandma Lucinda's name and oh, wouldn't we be happy if you grew up to be like her!

It was the name of my favorite female book character. Lucy Pevensie.
The Chronicles of Narnia.
Peter was magnificent and brave.
Edmond, just and wise.
Susan, beautiful and gentle.
"But as for Lucy, she was always gay and golden-haired," and her people called her "Queen Lucy the Valiant."

The name Lucy means, "Bearer of Light."

Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I [Jesus Christ] am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do.

"Lucy" was everything we hoped you'd be.
Turns out, it is very much what you are.

I love the new Lucy quote! And I love this post. And, I have to tell you about the dream I had. And we should do dinner again sometime before I get married and leave for Texas.

I love. I too had always wondered where the name Lucy came from. Just figured it was after Grandma Lu. She fits her name perfectly and can't see her as anything else.

Do you know what you are having yet?

what a perfect fit. I LOVE it when there is a terrific story behind a name, and Lucy definitely has one. I remember in my spanish class that Luz means light, so of course Lucy would deal with light too.

Are you going to find out what you're having this time? Either way, I'm excited to see what you name Truman baby #2 -- I like your style :)

What a beautiful post, Lori (as usual)! I also love the name Lucy--as you can tell from my girls' names, we are also big fans of old-fashioned names ;)

You know, another great Lucy that I used to think that Lucy was named after is Lucy Mack Smith.
