We celebrated with the usual festivities.
And aren't the usual festivities fun???
And I know many others of you have been asking/waiting for news.
So here's the report I've procrastinated giving:
Wes's last MRI showed tumor growth.
Which means that he no longer qualifies to receive the clinical trial chemo therapy he's been infused with weekly since September. And it means that a visit to our neighborhood neurosurgeon for a gamma knife (can we call it something else, please?) procedure is pending.
The gamma knife radiation will be followed by another kind of prolonged treatment about which I know very little at this point.
In light of all of that, here's what I want to say about Wes on his 29th birthday:
He is a GOOD, BRAVE man.
He deals with all this cancer business very quietly. He works hard in school. And he cares for me and our children with such love.
Today Lucy gave him a Valentine heart sticker for his birthday. He put it on his shirt and wore it all day. Even out to dinner.
Made me smile.
Made me think: i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it
Made me grateful that ours is a unifying trial.
Because I know that some trials are not.
Thanks to all of you who have sent prayers and love our direction this birthday season! It means the world.

Happy Birthday! We were just wondering if it was too late to call. Hopefully you got Ry's text and we will talk soon. There is much to say that is too long/personal/and boring to put on a comment :)

Happy Birthday, Wes!
Sorry about the less-than-stellar news. My own Mom's cancer has grown back to it's original size, and she starts radiation in a few weeks. (She has already done a low-dose chemotherapy a few times, with less success than other people with her type of cancer.)
happy birthday wes! we love you guys!!

Happy Birthday to Wes. I know that was not the birthday news you two were hoping for. You are both so brave, so faithful, so optimistic, and so wonderful. Such an example to everyone around you. You are much loved!
Happy Birthday Wes! Sorry I'm so late. I haven't had a chance to catch up on blog reading for a while. :o) I want you to know how grateful I am that you came into this world 29 years (and four days) ago. I remember the first time I met you, walking across the stadium parking lot on the way to Wyview. Since then I have come to admire you for the great man that you are. The other day I as I watched you play with Lucy though the windows of the Cannon Center as your family was waiting for you at the Cannon Center, I was touched, again, with the thought "There is a true man." "There is a man worth emulating." "There is a man who knows the Savior." As I watched you the other day, and thought of all the other things I have seen you do, I was filled with a deep love for you and your family. As I'm preparing to start my own family I look to you as a role model and example of the type of husband and father I want to be. I know that you are facing some very hard things, and there are times when you probably don't feel very strong. But I want to thank you for being who you are, and for always being strong in the important things. Your family has been and will continue to be blessed because of it, and so will mine. Thank you, Wes, for teaching me how to be a little more like our Father. My prayers are with you daily, and I know that God will continue to bless you, in all that you do.
happy happy late birthday wes! looks like you had a fun family day! we love you and pray for you, lori and those beautiful kids daily!
Prayers and good wishes for you and your family.
