This year we stayed home.
And this year, you listened.
And this year, you listened.
You marked up your conference bingo card with little beans.
"Five in a row!" meant picking a prize to share with Spencer.
I wasn't sure you'd be big enough to play.
You were big enough.
Maybe too big, I thought as you circumlocuted your way across the spaces...
"He said Harold B. Lee.
That's a prophet.
So let's put on a bean."...
"Mom, he said Moroni.
And Moroni's on top of the temple.
Shall we put on a bean?"
What was I supposed to say? No?
I was so glad we were all there listening together.
I was glad about the way you colored each apostle's picture as he spoke...
...helping us keep track of who was coming up in subsequent sessions.
I was glad for your sweet, uninhibited voice singing with gusto: "I know that my Redeemer Lives!"
I was mostly glad for your open ears and intent eyes.
Keep listening, Lucy.
I know you'll reap real rewards if you do.
Better than Nilla Wafers and board books.
You'll discover pearls of great price.
Peace, hope, clarity, conviction.
Correction.
"Identity...in the midst of immensity." (Neal A. Maxwell).
Such treasures.
Keep listening, Love.

I love her reasoning... "Moroni is on top of the temple" That's great!
What a tender post. Lucy is such a special little girl. I admire her so much! And what a fun way to get her involved in conference. I need to jot these things down for the future.
I love the bingo game and the prophet pictures. Can I get a copy of them for next go around?
What are you plans for the next 2 weeks...we would love to get together to play...Madelyn is off track so we are trying to find things to do each day.
love it, as always :)
I am glad you guys had success with Lucy listening to Conference (our attempt didn't go so well...I am sure October will be better). I like you love the things online at LDS.org to help children get involved. It is great that they can try to focus at a young age!
Her yellow eyebrow cracks me up. What a great little girl she is.
And you said this week would be boring posts...and this is far from boring! Thanks for sharing. I had the same experience with conference bingo...these children SO know what's going on. My mind would never make those connections but they can find them. It's so awesome to watch them do it to because they get so excited!
We recently read a story in the friend about a family who read about conference in King Benjamin's time with those families facing their tents towards the temple. (See http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=717840afd6b9c110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&vgnextoid=21bc9fbee98db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD)(Sorry I don't know how to put the link in the comment.) We're going to try their idea next conference.
We're praying for you. We'll be in town this July...we'd love to come see you!
Did it not testify to your soul the value of the 'teaching in the home'?
That subject was talked about again and again in conference...and, there you were ACTING OUT the messages that were delivered.
Though you were missed at this home. We praise your intimate family teaching moments!
Oh, that we all can be so diligent!
That is a fun way for kids to listen to conference. And I am glad that Wes is alright. And that you have so many wonderful friends who can/will step in when you need them. You guys are amazing!
I love those pictures of her intently listening! What great ideas to keep kids involved in conference!
Lori, I loved this post. I love how you mother. My heart goes out to you for your blustery day last week and I am glad to hear that things are sunny again! What a smart girl--cry in the shower. I've got to adopt that practice. ;) Love you and your little family--you're very inspiraional to me, in a happy, real, no-pedestals-here way.
I love Lucy's thoughtful expressions. And I LOVE her logic! We're still working on instilling in our children the value of truly listening to conference.
