To Everything There is a Season

A time to plant... And a time to pluck up that which is planted....
And in between the planting and the plucking is a lot of watering and waiting and watching and wondering.

I can almost hear my mother saying, "There could be a lesson in that!"

We testify that long awaited, worked-for, worried-about fruit is sweet to the taste.

That's right! Eat your heart out!

I ask you, what could be better than cutting up this succulent symbol of summertime to the sound of Lucy's voice, hollering from her high-chair , "That's from the gard-en!" (repeated multiple times...)

Perhaps I'll choose to let go of the annoyance that is plaguing me at the sight of our floor, covered (!!) in books and stuffed animals, and at the sound of my should-be-sleeping-child still singing in her bed, banging who-knows-what against the wall.
We just had fresh garden tomatoes for lunch! Life is good.

Wow, those pictures of Lucy with the tomato are certainly contest-worthy! I think that if you have extra tomatoes you should invite me over and we can eat one together--on sandwiches or something (I've got cheese, turkey, and spinach--but granted, none of them are probably as good as home-grown tomatoes. Maybe we should have them plain).

Mmmm...I love fresh garden tomatoes. Sometimes it's fun to pick the green ones and make fried green tomatoes. So tasty!

heath - consider yourself invited! We'll keep you posted on the ripeness of Butch's produce. When the next one is ready, you're here.

lindsay - wow. you mean fried green tomatoes is more than a movie title? :) Never had it. Sounds FAB.

I cannot, nor do I think I will ever, get over Lucy's curly hair.

Wish I could come over for a chat and a tomato as well. Miss you.

those pictures all look like they should be in a magazine! "The Benefit of Growing Your Own Tomatoes" My mouth is watering at the very sight!

Michelle - oh, don't say things like "wish I could come for a chat and a tomato" - it makes me miss you too much! How are your potted children doing?

Jeanine - I don't remember you not liking tomatoes. Hmmmm. That's ok. You're delicious pies make up for it.

Phoebe - wish we were close enough to bring a couple over (but I suspect you're probably growing your own...with vastly greater experience than us!)

Love that little golden Lucy! How can she look so much like both of you?

Thanks for getting the space for Laurie and Jeff and their team!

Growing up in Gunlock in the summer we ate tomatoes like we would eat apples in the fall.

I remember Russ, one of Wes' Kansas friends, telling us he'd never had a tomatoe sandwich!!! We couldn't imagine it!

Food holds such memories!

Amen to all of the above!!!
Also...the literary statement: "succlent symbol of summer" was a keeper for me--as well as the visuals! Mom Packer
