Winter's On the Wing

I concede (even after all of my winter whining) that come July I just might feel nostalgic about this freezing season - that I just might think fondly about...

Snowy sights
White cable tights
Winter walks
Date night talks (in a heated car)

"Keep-me-WARM" cuddles
Warm baths with bubbles
Fast down-hill thrills
Warm morning meals (our baby bear sure loves her porridge!)
Painting at play-group
Hot cocoa...
and warm soup

The constant state of my living room floor

A little hatted head waiting by the door
Squeezable coats

Little love notes
That certain slant of winter light
Cuddly PJ's every night
It certainly hasn't been all bad, this winter business. But our feelings aren't smarting too much as we wach Mr. Coldandgrey pack up his heavy bags and move on.
Here's to sunshine, and to The Secret Garden singing on our Ipod.

Winter's on the wing,
Here's a fine spring morn'
Comin' clear through the night,
Come the day I say.
Winter's taken flight
Sweepin' dark cold air
Out to sea, Spring is born,
Comes the day say I,
And you'll be here to see it.
Stand and breathe it all the day.
Stoop, and feel it.
Stop and hear it.
Spring, I say.
And now the sun is climbin' high,
Rising fast on fire,
Glaring down through the gloom,
Gone the gray, I say.
The sun it spells the doom
Of the winter's reign,
Ice and chill must retire
Comes the May say I,
And you'll be here to see it.
Stand and breathe it all the day.
Stoop, and feel it.
Stop and hear it.
Spring, I say.
I say, be gone, ye howling gales,
Be off, ye frosty morns!
All ye solid streams begin to thaw.
Melt, ye waterfalls,
Part ye frozen winter walls.
See, see now it's starting.
And now the mist is liftin' high,
Leavin' bright blue air
Rollin' clean 'cross the moor
Comes the day I say.
The storm'll soon be by
Leaving clear blue sky,
Soon the sun will shine,
Comes the day, say I.
And you'll be here to see it.
Stand and breathe it all the day.
Stoop and feel it.
Stop and hear it.
Spring, I say.

Isn't it funny how in the middle of winter we want the warmth of summer and in the middle of summer, we want the cool of winter?

Also, Lori, I have to say, that you make a REAL winter look and sound like so much fun! (Not like our mild Texas winters--but growing up in California and spending 8 winters in Utah, I was ready for snow-less winters again!)

Oh, to be able to enjoy the present! It takes talent. I think it takes more creativity, more self-motivation,and simply more 'grit' to smile under grey skys........ I admire you girls who live happily (while secretly and patiently waiting for 'springtime' to appear in our lives).
You are the very best!!

Now that you make me think of it, there ARE some things about this blastedly cold winter that I will miss come summertime. Thanks for the reminder.

Also, now I have "Winter's on the Wing" totally stuck in my head. You just may have convinced to go pull out my Secret Garden CD. :) (Best Broadway soundtrack in the world!!)

Its been warm here for the past few days... short sleeves and flats without socks! Here comes spring! Yea! The park was packed today. But its true, in the heat stroke that is summer, I'll wish for snow, even if at this moment I wish to never see it again!

(And I CANNNOT stand hats, mittens, scarves and coats lying around either! It drives me bonkers!)

What a cute, creative post! If I knew I had another winter in UT I wouldn't be the LEAST bit sad to bid this season goodbye but b/c it is our last in UT I, too am a bit nostalgic to let it go. I might never have a cold, snowy winter again!

I love the Secret Garden reference. I will always think of my DT buds when I think of it since Ben was in it (man he was good). And I think of you, Lori, telling us that Wes was singing along to the soundtrack in anticipation to going to see it and I thought that was so cute! :) I keep looking out our window looking for something to show a little "wick". It can't stay like this forever, right? We've gotten another 8 inches or so in the last two days. Fresh snow is better than old and gross snow, though, I guess!
