Groundhog Day is a beloved holiday in our household.
Definately in the holiday top 5.
There is nothing quite so sublime as the suprise on a stranger's face when you greet them with a bright and sincere, "Happy Groundhog Day!"
Oh yes, I love this holiday. I love it because I have dear friends who have been to Punxsutawney, Pennselvania on February 2nd. I love it because it enobles and sanctifies an otherwise completely useless rodent. I love it because of its occassional illusion of a fast approaching spring. I love it because it reminds me of happy high school and college days and friends. I love it because it is random. And hillarious. And we get a kick out of the movie. And it is a chocolate chip cookie baking holiday. (Isn't there something about a small, round, brown cookie that says Groundhog Day? Yes. There is.)
And this year, folks, this year we have carols . No kidding.
Here's my favorite, courtesy of Don Halley (with a few personal alterations):
Tune = Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Wake me up when it's springtime
Let me sleep through the cold
Pile up some blankets upon my back
All I want is to stay in the sack
But it's up, up, up I must now hop
If I don't show, it's a crime
'Cause I'm Punx-su-tawney Phil
And it's Groundhog time!
Is Lucy loving this song? You bet your britches.
(I assure all concerned parties that our Groundhog Day festivities will will be put on reverent pause today at 11:00am as we honor an utterly important occasion and a beloved man.)

I'm sure Pres. Hinckley is happy to share his day with Phil. Happy Groundhog Day indeed! Love the song!
You make me laugh. I totally forgot that it was Groundhog Day! (Sorry!)
You said something that struck me though, you'll have to check my blog to see what it is... :)
HOW FUN!
I'm glad we could spend some of Groundhog Day w/ y'all! "Thank you ever so much" for having us over :)We'll have to do it again soon!
You are so funny! I especially loved Groundhog day when I lived in the world of 2nd graders.
"You make me feel so young"...and happy...and 'random'. I truly have created a poet, and am proud of that!!! dwp
I love it! Groundhogs day makes me miss teaching so much! (Amen Anne!) It is so fun. I used to teach my students the following song, and Linc is loving it now, too. (to the tune of I'm a little tea pot)
I'm a little groundhog furry and brown
I'm popping up to look around
if I see my shadow, down I'll go
Six more weeks of winter
OH, NO!!
Oh no indeed, eh?
