Lucy was thrilled to the depths of her three year old soul to see "Real Pioneers!!!"
"They waved at me!!" she hollered over and over and over.
Later, we sang about "Little pioneer children gath'ring berries for food."
Then we drove to Target to gather a few of our own. (Lucy, spotting a stand of raspberries: "BERRIES!!! Just what we were looking for!!!")
That's right, Brigham and Eliza. Berries from Target.
Self sufficiency? We've got a long way to go.
Self sufficiency? We've got a long way to go.
Our Target berries went into this favorite recipe.

Complete with disposable paper cups and baked in a gas oven.
We did shuck our own corn cobs.
No wonder it took a whole lot of explaining to help Lucy understand the Seagull story we told her before bed tonight.
So what if the crickets eat the crops. We'll just drive to the store and get some more.

So did you see us run the 10K while watching the parade on TV....I guess we ran before the parade started...6a.m. It was fun, but we're sure sore. Sounds like the 24th was a celebration at your pad. Too bad we didn't get to see you, but we will soon. Love and miss you.
That Lucy! What a cutie!
Being outside Utah, we forget to do much celebrating. Such good examples you are to me! We'll have to do some pioneer stuff for FHE on Monday, I guess! Gotta get on the ball!
Whenever I think about pioneers I think of this poem, and am so grateful for them! Thanks for the video and the reminder!
They cut desire into short lengths
And fed it to the hungry fires of courage.
Long after—when the flames had died—
Molten Gold gleamed in the ashes.
They gathered it into bruised palms
And handed it to their children
And their children's children.

I feel the same way about my garden - if it gets eaten or diseased or just doesn't grow, I can just go to the store. Boy, we got it good!
Dear, dear Pioneers of all ages and stages.... "...desires... fed to the hungry fires of courage..."
And now, tenderly and gratefully we hear a child's voice say: "No Problem!"
Perspective! Appreciation! Gratitude!!!
Thanks for helping us remember...
Love the post and the shucking of corn!!! No problem mom!!!
i notice Lucy's cute little ORANGE apron! :)
Man we've got it easy... it's a good thing because our crop died this year--but it wasn't because of crickets, it was for lack of water. I just could make myself make the long trek to the back of my backyard to do it in this heat! I'm so spoiled!
How funny! I love the video of you guys shucking corn. lol. Glad you guys had such a convenient 24th of July. ;)
I love the new quotes, especially that the new baby will be ORANGE!
Hey what are you guys doing next week. Jared is going out of town and I thought perhaps we could venture to the museum. Let me know. Wes is welcome to come but I can still only get 1 of the 3 of you in for free.
So cute.. I love to read about all your adventures.
