Wishing that I could have captured the EXCITEMENT that was Lucy's experience on an airplane last weekend.
She caught the tired-eyed airport officials off guard with her, "Hey! We're gonna fly on an airplane!" She made sure all the security guards were notified that we were "Going to see Grandma and Grandpa!!" And when we stepped inside the airplane, she didn't hesitate to inform the pilot, in a voice of oozing enthusiasm, that we were "going FLYing!!"
Once seated, I thought Lucy's excited dialog would be muffled amid the general din of passengers. Indeed, Wes and I were the predominant beneficiaries of her running commentary...
"We're going up up up!"
"We're flying! We're in the sky!"
After each intercom update from the pilot: "Hey! He said Las Vegas! Yeah! That's right! Las Vegas! We're going to Gram and Gramps house in Las Vegas!"
"Hey, plane! Thanks for taking us to Las Vegas!"
"You can fly by yourself, plane!"
Etc, ETC, ETC.
...But her little voice must have carried throughout the plane's long corridor because she was practically a celebrity when we landed.
Most people just pointed and made comments replete with the phrase "so cute."
But some people had obviously heard Lucy's fifty thousand squeals about going "to Grandma and Grandpa's house in Las Vegas!!!!" and, thus, approached her directly with chuckles and smiles, asking, "where are you going?" Lucy did not disappoint with her loud and clear answer.
"That's one excited little girl!" the man in front of us said after inviting Lucy to come and live with him if we ever got bored with her.
No. She cannot come and live with you.
Yes. She is one excited little girl.
One excited, darling, happy little girl. Overflowing with a kind of life that words fail to capture.
A kind of life that is abundant, unassuming, buoyant, full of excitement and trust and goodness. A kind of life that is happily contagious.
Thank heaven for little girls.
Thank heaven for children.
And would you believe that the flight wasn't the highlight of the trip?
We spent memorable time with family. Meaningful time. Meaningful because of certain reminders that life, while abundant and exciting and happy, is sometimes hard and scary and sobering. We wished our three days at Grandma's house could have been three weeks.
We saw friends.

And new....

We'll be reveling in the happy memories for weeks to come!

I know I sound just like all of your airplane neighbors, but she's so adorable! I love it! (And it sure beats having to deal with a whiny, miserably squirmy little girl!)
You write so beautifully and I thank you for that. Love that you enjoyed your "mini" vacation.
Glad that you enjoyed your vacation! LOVE Lucy's commentary. She is the cutest thing ever.
And you look GREAT! We still need a full body pregnant shot of you though so that we can see your cute pregnant self.
Oh and at least once a week William tells me something about his friend Lucy. One of these days we'll have to get together again!
Ahhhhh....Las Vegas....wish I could have joined you. Glad you had a great trip. We are busily, procrastinating our year long trip. Actually, Terry is doing pretty good and I'm procrastinating. Smile....
love this post...love Lucy...love you...can't wait to meet our new friend!
Amazing how one exuberant and enthusiastic little girl can make an otherwise probably boring or even frustrating plane ride better for everyone!
truly, TRULY touching to see Amy and Ryan's babies. I am so glad they got their little miracles.
How wonderful to see life through the eyes of a child....via the wondrous writing of her mom.
Heard Grandma and Grandpa Truman's castle is glorous! (Matches the occupants!)
Those twins and friends are incredable.
Love to all.... Keep on wishing
I am glad to hear that Lucy loved the airplane ride...our boys' first one is coming up for our visit to Utah in 3 weeks (hoorah!), and I'm worried about freak outs (mostly from Gabey). Working on some prep...hope it's as successful as yours!
