Today was our first ever Dr. Seuss Birthday Extravaganza. (And I thought I should blog about it. Because really. Every time you say the word BLOG doesn't a small part of you feel like a character in a Seuss story?) It was a success, thanks almost exclusively to ANNE (without whose reminders I would forget entirely about Dr. Seuss's birthday), and to NICOLE (without whose Seuss donations our party would have lacked significant flare. Nicole, do you remember how awesome your commons room was?? I remember.)
We started the day with stories, of course!
What is your favorite? I can never decide mine. Green Eggs...The Grinch...Oh, the Thinks...Horton...lately I've been oh, so fond of Yertle the Turtle.
Uuuum. Nope. Can't decide.
By 10 we had read every Seuss book in the house (twice), and thought we'd better restock.
So we trekked...
to our favorite place...
only to find the 813 G277 shelves EMPTY. That's what you get for being a last-minute mom. You can be sure there were a few tears shed. Not mine! Come on people, I'm not that sentimental! They weren't his either.
BUT. We didn't leave the library totally empty handed. Lucy carried two cassette tapes home in her Dr. Seuss backpack and we spent the afternoon listening to stories while coloring a few familiar characters.
Daddy came home just in time for a little...
And then...
After dinner we watched half of Horton Hears a Who. Which we all like.
And it was a long, FUN day.
So get yourselves on up and have a little Seuss celebration! ASAP! "Whatever that means. Probably, 'Act Swiftly Awesome Pachyderm.'"

So fun! Your kids are so lucky to have a mom like you!
You are so clever. Thanks for the smile.
Very cute idea!!! How fun!
Man, my creativity skills are seriously lacking in light of yours! And now you made me feel guilty that we do not own ANY Dr. Seuss books! (Although, we did check two out from the library that we are returning today.) Sure looks like it was a fun day... you should blog about your ideas BEFORE putting them into action so we can all copy you!
you have much suess knowledge :) my fav is definitely there's a wocket in my pocket. Who doesn't want a gellar in the cellar?
That is so fantastic! I love that you find so many things to celebrate.
This is so fun! You are so creative Lori! And Dr. Seuss books are great!
"Oh the Thinks you can Think"!!!
....."I'm glad I'm not young" anymore"
You surely put a smile on the day!!!
I'm so glad that you were able to have an extravaganza! I'm sad that I didn't, but honestly--my boys are nowhere near that type of creativity and organization. :) And I love that Wes thanked the Lord for creativity. Can you imagine what the world would be like without it?
What a fun day! Maybe next year I'll be on top of things and we can celebrate too!
I'm so glad!
I was thinking about all things Seussical yesterday, and about my commons room that year. I was thinking, "Gee...I sure wish I could decorate my current classroom like I used to decorate my commons rooms..
Except that I teach high school physics...and I don't think they'd be as excited about it. Also, the fire marshall might have something to say about it. :)
I'm beyond glad that the donated Seuss goods have been put to such great use. You continue to make me oh-so-happy Lori.
Yea!!! So so fun! would you believe that Blaine, a scrambled eggs lover, had the audacity to tell me he didn't like his green eggs yesterday?! How classic! I had to remind him of Sam I Am of course. "Try them and you may, I say," I told him.
Love to you. Glad it was such a raving success.
That is so fun! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to remember this for next year.
so fun! i'm only sorry the library shelves were empty! isn't it fun to make a themed adventure of a whole day? love it!
What a fun idea! I totally forgot it was Dr. Seuss's birthday the other day. I'm glad you had a great time with it!
