Are we the only ones terribly loath to actually stop a sleeping car and yank its slumbering occupants out? Are we the only ones compelled to pass by our destination and circle around unknown neighborhoods just to prolong the peace? Never mind the price of gas. I confess, I really dig those extra minutes whispering with Wes.
"I like the shingles on that house."
"Mmmm. Look at those roses."
"Not a fan of ..."
"Did you see the ...?"
"Do you like those...?"
We giggle about street names (last Saturday for example: Lois Lane, Abinadi Drive, Zerahemla Way, etc...) and admire the charm of unique old homes and well kept properties. There are, inevitably, a lot of "someday...s." The plans aren't really consistent from one drive to the next. Like all good day dreams they change spontaneously and irrationally. Sometimes our dream house is quaint, sometimes it's stately. Sometimes it's shadowed by green and rocky mountains. Sometimes it sits on a rural drive with lots of acres. There's really only one part of the dream that doesn't change.
Oh, and we always build with brick.
Several weeks ago as we pulled into a crowded parking lot, an older gentleman and his white haired companion stepped off the curb in front of us. The woman kept walking ahead on a diagonal, placing herself directly in the path of our car and others. The man gently took her elbow and guided her in a safer direction. Neither said a word. Neither looked back at the build up of cars. They just kept walking. Wes turned to me with a twinkle in his eye and said, "Someday you'll be meandering out into traffic and I'll pull you back."
And that, really, is the dream, isn't it?

Dreams always change. Life changes. Things we once took for granted... now grateful for instead. We become happier with less, because we realize how much we really have to be happy for in the first place. The dream house shrinks in size, but fills with children, as we realize the things in life that bring true joy. So few people realize and take the time to enjoy the simple things.
And maybe it will be Wes meandering out into traffic and you'll have to stop him.
I love your posts and you. Wish we could have made it to the party on Saturday, but it was one of those weeks and I needed a break from everything, since Jared left this morning. Perhaps we can plan a time when we can all get together to play. Let me know what works for you.
It's been such a long time since I've gone driving to look at houses. It's so fun to dream and plan and know that life is going to take in you in some unknown, usually unplanned, direction.
Dreams sure are fun... It's been so long since we've just driven around.
You two are the best. Love you.
We were just watching the adorable videos of Spencer... and William asked, "Is Lucy going to be on our vacation?" I told him 'no' and he was disappointed. We need to see you again friends!
