Summer Celebrations: Under The Sea

It's getting hot.
So we've been SWIMMING and celebrating FISH + other water creatures.
I have no pictures of Spencer looking super cute in his sea turtle suit (because ten minutes after we put him in the water he broke out in a sad little rash all around his eyes...sunscreen? chlorine? Poor guy.).

But I do have pictures of our trip to the fish tank inside a local doctor's office. Someday when our budget allows, we want to take Lucy here. Anyone ever been?

During Spencer's daily naps, Lucy and I "fished" with a magnetic Melissa and Doug puzzle that we found at Kid-to-Kid, played a sea shell matching/memory game (clipped from the Highlights magazine you sent, Mom. Thanks!), and our favorite...

Swimmy pictures! Lucy loves (adores) Leo Lionni's Swimmy (and most of his other books, too. Did I post about the inchworm? I meant to.) Inside the cover of Swimmy are instructions for making potato print fish. It was a ball. Best art project we've done yet.
We also made sea shells. Quicker and less involved than Swimmy pictures, if you're looking for quicker and less involved (Noodles + Ziploc bag + a little vinegar and food dye. shake.).
Pretty fun.(The real fun, though, was digging them up at "the beach!")

Throw in a Nemo movie party (complete with gold&Swedish fish), and you have one fabulously fishy week!

We went to the acquarium a couple months ago with Logan and he loved it! It is well worth the money. I mean it isn't the BEST acquarium I have ever been to, but I think Lucy will LOVE it. She can see sharks, jellyfish, frogs, snakes and touch a stingray! I posted about it on my blog on April 18th.

We have a year pass to the aquarium and our kids love it. So anytime you want to go, we would love to meet you there!!

Hi Lori! We went to the Living Planet aquarium in Sandy (the temp location before they move to the real big one they're trying to build) and ended up getting annual passes the year before we moved from Provo. Bekah loved it. At that time, the annual pass was totally worth it even though it seemed like there wasn't much to do overall. Kids can't take more than an hour and this way we could enjoy it several times without meltdowns and not feeling guilty about our pocketbook. It was much cheaper than the other local museums and we often drove through the area to visit family anyway.

The jellyfish were awesome and Bekah loved the octopus and manta rays and sharks.

Good luck!

I just don't know how you keep coming up with so many fun ideas--I will have to come back to these blogs when I have kids!

You always have to funnest ideas! Your kids are so lucky (and we're so lucky that you share them with us!)

Love this idea. My kids are fascinated with the fish tanks at doctor's offices, but none of our doctor's have them. We have been to the aquarium. It was fun, but not sure if it was completely worth the money to go. If you do decide to go, it might be worth getting a year membership, you go twice and it has paid for itself. Anywho, that is my two cents. You really do have the best ideas and thanks for sharing with all of us.

How much fun you guys are having!! I want to go to the Sandy aquarium so when you guys make a trip of it let us know (if you don't mind having two big kids come too with you). For now though you should save up for this aquarium (its really my favorite) as hopefully you'll be there in a month: http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/
It's way expensive though, but I think it's worth it.

I would fly my kids up there if you did a day camp like that for them! :) Sounds like so much fun with such great ideas!

I second Heather's comment. You are so creative. I haven't ever been to that aquarium before, but it would be fun to try. We did go the the aquarium in Vancouver last year, which was a lot of fun. They had a pretty nice aquarium there (although not as fancy as the Monterey Bay Aquarium)
