"Trees are very nice.
They fill up the sky...
They make everything beautiful."
"A tree is nice because it has leaves.
The leaves whisper in the breeze all summer long...
A tree is nice because it has a trunk and limbs...
We can sit on a limb and think about things.
Or play pirate ship up in the tree."*
Tree "week" has dragged on and on. I'm loath to let it end. It has been such fun.
"READY OR NOT!" (below:
found dad!)
(below: found mom!)

(below:
where's lucy...?!)

We've been all over town hiding behind, hanging in, and climbing trees, as well as gathering
special tree treasures.

(Isn't that what the trunk of a tricycle is for?)

(...an excuse to finally use
Amy's magnetic tape tip-off!! Two thumbs up! Also an excuse to practice our counting & math. "If you have fourteen cherries and Spencer takes away two...")
And...did you know you can take a
BYU Tree Tour? Heather and Royce might be disappointed that we didn't do
the whole thing, but we made several important stops. (Couldn't pass up the prehistoric
Ginkgoes! Lucy loved the "Dinosaur trees!")

At the Cannon Center, we watched landscapers use trees to transform a hot, dusty drive into an inviting courtyard.

And we loved searching for unique trees, like this one that Lucy named the "waterfall tree,"

or like the concrete "
Tree of Wisdom," in the center of campus.

One evening we curled up for the tree house adventures of
The Swiss Family Robinson and I kept meaning to beat summer's afternoon heat at The University Mall's indoor tree house, but we never got around to it.
The final word: We love trees. We love their beauty and shade. We love the light shining through their leaves,

We love their acorns and sticky sap. We love their
secrets-like the swaying branches of a Weeping European Beach,
which, like coats in an old wardrobe, provide passage into a world of pure magic.

Ooh, fun, fun, fun! Haley has really gotten into the human body, so we've been getting books about that lately. She's in heaven. She drags this one book EVERYWHERE we go. (Yesterday, Julian's pediatrician asked her if she is going to be a doctor--she received a shy non-response.)
I love this post Lori! Especially all the cute pics of Lucy eating yummy fruits. You're such a fun mom to do these weekly activities with her.
Love the post and glad to see that you are still being you...the bestest mom in the world.
Hope to see you this weekend.
So much fun! I love your magnetic tree idea! I am SO going to copy you!
Yum! I love trees too and everything that grows on trees! I can see from the little ones that the apple doesn't fall far from the trees! Love you!
don't worry Lori...last we checked, there was no more tree house in the university mall. It got flooded out last year, and they never replaced it...byu tree tour?? HOW COOL!
Fun! This post makes me heart-sick for Utah. I miss it so! If I ever come for a visit, can we arrange to meet?
Glad you guys went on the tree tour! Still haven't been on it myself but I hear there's TONS so I don't blame you for not doing the whole thing!
LOVE this. Lots of comments. but mainly, LOVE this. and majorly sad we weren't celebrating with you
Your darling children will grow up seeing the adventure in everything. I love it. and you.
Ditto! Life is an adventure for sure. Our challenge is to partake, enjoy, and share it's treasures as you do. Lucy now points out to us the "firs" the "elm", or the 'oaks'....etc
