For Spencer

A few Sundays ago, Dad was talking to Grandma Truman on the phone. I knew he was describing you when he said, "He's getting more and more......everything."

And you are. You're getting more talkative and more walkative. You're getting more opinionated and decisive.
You are eating everything.
You are exploring everything.
You are into everything. (I know everyone is all over that man-from-apes idea, but are we sure that man didn't descend from dogs? The way you gnaw on shoes, raid garbage cans, and paw at the front door makes me rather suspicious.)
You want to be involved. Every moment.
Your infectious smile makes the world (and my heart) bright. Your rage calls everyone's attention. You are go go go every second. I feel simultaneously ready to cheer and cry when you wake up from your naps. You are a grand party carried about on two wobbly feet.

You communicate mostly with screams and pointing, unless referencing a balloon ("Booon!"), a duck/bird/goose/rooster ("Quack!"),
a monkey ("oooooo!!"), or an owl ("whoo!), and yesterday you meant "in!" while stuffing a blanket into a box, insisting dramatically "NNNNnnn!"
Your big sister is your best friend.
She wrote a good description of you yesterday on my computer:
Spud is a silly guy. He turns and turns the pages of the books. And he picks up crayons, he loves to play. Guess what else he likes to do? He likes to play car. And he loves to look at things. The end. !

I have to remind myself everyday to let you look at things, to turn pages and pages with you, to interact with you intentionally and often.

Because you're ready to learn. Everything.

Love you, boy.

He is so cute! And I can testify how much he likes food--I've been to the Cannon Center with that kid. And he definitely knows what he wants to eat!

He is such a cutie. Sorry we never made it down to see you, we all had a little cold when we got back from vacation and figured we shouldn't spread it to others.

What a sweet boy. Your description of him reminds me a lot of Rhett. I bet they'd be good buddies.

What a picture.... What a face...
What a boy...... We adore them all. (and I understand that "recharging" stuff of which naps are made of.)

Have a wonderful time in Vegas. We'll be thinking of you...
