12 Days of Christmas Catch-Up: The Bookworm

Two years ago I saw a picture book rendition of a Nordic tale about a brave little girl who searched for the suddenly disappeared sun and saved it from mountain trolls.

Like I could not buy it. Wes's tales of "dark time" in Norway (where he served his mission) and the main character's similarity to our own little light bearer were two strikes.

The second to last page: "Lucia's mother held her close. "My sunshine," she whispered. "Light of my heart." Well, that was strike three.

I've had to wait a couple of years for Lucy to mature enough for the tale.
This year she was ready. And she loved it.

And I love new books for Christmas, period. Wes and I decided after we were married that we'd love to establish the tradition of gifting lots of new books to each other and to our children for Christmas and then spending one day of our Christmas break snuggled up with quilts, treats, and a fire in the fireplace for a big family read-a-thon.

Lucy is about old enough to participate in the tradition...for a few hours at least. Our mini read-a-thon will happen on an upcoming day in January (Christmas traveling necessitated its postponement). And I think it will be a good time. Even without a fireplace.

Did you get any fun reads for Christmas? One of my new years resolutions is to finish more books!

A perfect tradition, I think. Of course. :)

This makes me all kinds of happy! I guess that's the librarian speaking in me (or the life-long book-lover)!

That's basically all I get Heather now for present days-books!....and The Cosby Show.

The Christmas Jar....The Christmas Jar Reunion....are two fun light reads that I enjoyed this year. Dad gave me Gerald Lund's book about the Hole in the Rock adventure of the pioneers-- "The Undaunted" .

I kinda like that idea even more than the 'family puzzel' (now that my eyes are not what they used to be :)

The Hunger Games and Catching Fire are great books. We got them both for Christmas. We love books too, the kids get a new one each year!

Is Lucy's book about St. Lucia? We celebrated that holiday growing up (my grandpa was born and raised in Sweden). The book looks wonderful!

Fun tradition.
I ask grandparents to gift only books for birthdays sometimes. And definitely include them for Christmas.
My kids received "How I became a pirate" which we all love.

One of my Christmas books (though it is not about Christmas) is a darling old book called "The Wheel on the School." I haven't quite finished, but I love it.
