Sorry, Dr. Suess!

Tuesdays aren't the best for celebrating birthdays at our house. Not a chance we could pull off a party of last year's proportions.
We did eat schlopp (vanilla yogurt) with a cherry on top.

I had good intentions of making homemade granola for the bottom of our breakfast bowls. Nope. But the blueberries we added post photo-op were delightful.

Several minutes into eating, Lucy said, "We are schloppers!"
Yes.

We are.

Then Thing One and Thing Two ran amuck for the rest of the morning while I prepared for meetings.

And...that was it.

I guess there were celebratory MnMs at last night's RA staff meeting.
Oh, the Thinks You Can Think initiated a nice discussion about the distractions (usually technological) that can rob us of our opportunity (perhaps even our ability) to think & ponder. And we recounted the history of The Cat in the Hat, concluding that constraint often fuels creativity.

And I suppose we've been lately (within the past month? Does that count? Ahem.) to the library...

(which outing I'm calling a success because Spencer had to be literally dragged away.)

For the record: I heart Academy Square. Although, dare I admit in this great mommy-blogosphere that I rather dislike story time at the library? GASP. We never go. The above outing was on a lazy Saturday afternoon. I just can't seem to make it out the door for those scheduled sessions that are swarming with moms and kids. Folks, I can barely get Lucy to preschool on time thrice a week! Just got back from dropping her off 10 minutes late, in fact!

And just put Thing Two...

(who is responsible today for a multitude of crimes, including last night's sleep deprivation, my hairbrush in the toilet, and a broken box of tiny beads all over the craft store floor, among other things) down for a nap.

*Sigh*

And so here I sit, amid a great mess
Attired in clothes, but not really dressed,
With counters to wipe, and laundry to dry (well, first to wash) --
Not sure wheather to laugh or to break down and cry!

But glad for the words of one wiser than I:

"You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose."
(Oh! The Places You'll Go)

So today, I choose to laugh. And to feel lucky.

(But only because it was Dr. Suess's birthday yesterday! wink.)

I love that you have those wonderful days too. We have them all to often (dressed but not really, Thing 2 running a muck wherever we go, etc.) Would love to get together to play sometime soon.

Oh Lori, I know how those days are! And I think your kind of storytime is really the way to go. You're probably doing much better than you think you are.

Love it! And AMEN to story time sister! No thanks...I don't need anymore on my schedule to make me feel like I can't get my act together :)

Wish that my Thing 1 and Thing 2 could play with yours! Maybe they'd keep each other out of trouble!

And don't you just really love Dr. Seuss? He really was so wise.

Spencer is getting so big! I love the picture of him in the crib...he is so precious!
I thought of you as we celebrated Dr. Suess's birthday (the library did the planning and preparing b/c I am still unpacking).
I hope you continue to enjoy the things that are Most Important! I think you guys are great at making the most of things that are most important.

So beautiful, Lori. Thanks for sharing. I totally am right there with you on Thing 1 and Thing 2 being in cohorts with each other...they know when I'm on the phone and team up! And Thing 2 is definitely becoming more trouble than Thing 1. Here we come terrible twos. I can't believe the amount of trouble he caused just this morning! But here is another Dr. Seuss gem:
Today is gone. Today was fun.
Tomorrow is another one.
Every day, from here to there,
funny THINGS are everywhere.
Enjoy your celebrating! Thanks for inspiring me to do something fun to honor his birthday.

I think you are such a cute mom and I think it's so fun that you recognize his birthday! After your post last year I told myself I'd do it, but....I forgot. Maybe next year :)

I cannot even count the number of times Thing 1 and Thing 2 have wreaked (sp?) similar havoc on our home. And, Lori, I can't tell you how helpful it is to hear that you have a hard time getting Lucy to preschool on time. I have sort of been beating myself up recently because we can't seem to make it to any scheduled activity on time. It really encourages me to know I'm not the only one. :)
