12 Days of Christmas Catch-Up: The Nutcracker

Sometime in November, Lucy ran out of Bubblicious Berry Blast Whatever-It's-Called Kid-Flavored toothpaste.  Instead of rushing out to get her another tube, I just made her use my Colgate.  Because I'm a good mom like that and everything.

Well, I guess it was a little strong for her tender mouth (or something!) and she complained about it a lot.
So one evening in early December, I suggested, "Maybe you should ask Santa to bring you some strawberry toothpaste..."

Perfect!, she thought.
Perfect, I thought.

About a week before Christmas, however, I found a letter to Santa from Lucy requesting "a beautiful golden dress."
???
Toothpaste...golden dress...toothpaste...golden dress....it's a toss up, I know!

Well, Santa managed to bring both.

And Mom and Dad threw in a little something special with the dress.

Tickets for a special date on December 28th.
Just the three of us.

We prepared with Lucy's new paper dolls.

And a little relevant reading (thanks Uncle Mark and Aunt Julie!).

And on December 28th we had a beautiful, memorable time.

I loved going to the Nutcracker as a little girl. When I was pregnant with Lucy -just days before we learned her gender - Wes took me for our anniversary and we wondered if (hoped) we'd have a daughter to share the tradition with someday.

We're so glad we do.

(Lu has been drawing scenes from the ballet ever since our outing.  I enjoyed this particular depiction with the addition of Rudolph.)

We went the 23rd because I too had fond memories of attending as a small child. How fun to pass it on to your little family. I do miss the old version of Mother Buffoon though.

How beautiful is that golden dress! We need to do something like this for our little princess. What fun. I get such great ideas from you.

What a fun memory for all of you! I remember going with my mom and little sister and dreaming of dancing on the stage some day. A few years later, I tried out and made it as a soldier and I think it would be cool to take my girls and point out where I danced when I was 11 years old. :)

Lucy and Wes look so charming together. Love that golden dress and am totally jealous of her paper dolls. Those are pretty amazing!

And she's becoming quite a good little artist. Very keen attention to detail.
