Trick-or-Treat!

Lucy is the one who requested owls (after changing her mind a million times). She wanted to be a "snowy owl," specifically.

Well, why not! I happened to have unused owl masks in the craft closet (hadn't planned on them for costumes. I'm not really a fan of masks on Halloween. They're cumbersome. And they hide cute faces. But when your child wants to be a snowy owl, your child wants to be a snowy owl. So I pulled out the masks.)I'd been meaning to let the kids help decorate them for weeks. But when they were still undone yesterday afternoon, I knew it was up to me. So I plopped Spencer across the table, gave him a coloring book, and went to work.

One "brown owl" (Lucy's designation for her little brother, which was readily accepted by him):

Check.

I set the brown owl aside and reached for the second mask, only to find that Spencer, in his typical helpful way, had found and finished it for me!

Hmmmm.
Snowy owl with blood red scribbles? Halloweenish, certainly, but not really my style.
In the end, Lucy was happy to be a...colorful...snowy owl.
Not really what either of us had envisioned, but acceptable, none-the-less.

After all the fun, we came home to count the loot.

And to eat soup and bread.
And to bake warm chocolate chip cookies.
And to snuggle up on the big bed to read all our Halloween stories (that was my favorite part of the night).

(Sorry I always cut you out of the picture, Spud!  One of these days I'll get it right!)

OK... I am laughing histerically at the brown Owl's top head feathers!

And the Snow Owl..... Didn't Grandma Truman mention to me that anything with feathers indicated HOPE.

Well, you can't do better than that!

Love the owls and their mommy! I also love that you made cookies and then snuggled up on the bed and read stories....perhaps we will try that next year. Thanks Lori!

I've gotten behind on commenting on your blog here Lori so here's what I've been wanting to say...

I love your Disney pictures. I think that's such a sweet tradition for your family to return to. I can't wait until I can take my kiddos there, maybe we'll have to meet you there someday. :)

The pictures of the hospital are beautiful. After hearing all of Shane's stories of the life and death that happens in such places and after having our children in hospitals, I really believe they are in a way, hallowed ground.

Lastly, your kiddies costumes are darling! I have the cutest Halloween owl scrapbook paper (it's one of the papers on my family picture display that I posted to my blog) so anyway, if you scrapbook, I'll have to send it to you, it would be too perfect to go with those costumes. Don't you just love being a mom on Halloween? I think it is just way too fun. :)

HAHAHA, the buzzer for your cookies must have gone off in that video, but I didn't realize it was in your video, I thought it was my own buzzer, so I jumped out of my chair and thought, "What am I even cooking, I don't remember setting the timer....oh wait" hahahaha, thanks for that little laugh. :)
Cute owls...I love a good home made costume!!!

Those coats are awesome, and perfectly owlish! My two other favorite things are Lucy's hair knobs and Spencer's tuft of hair. You are a good mom Lori.
