(Our dirty laundry sometime mid-march. Isn't it lovely?)
How 'bout a ridiculously detailed retelling of our March 17th? Might as well. Kids are busy playing together...seeking me only every 10 minutes or so with various sibling allegations. We had a good time. Green milk and all that.
("I LOVE green milk!!" Spencer hollered after catching sight of the altered liquid in the fridge. He is an enthusiast of the highest order.)
And look how much that Lucky Charms face has changed!
I thought about making myself a green drink for breakfast. But we only buy Lucky Charms once a year!
Ate mine out of a mug with a serving spoon. Hmmmm. Time to do the dishes. Spencer helped me...
...while Lucy practiced the piano.
Then we all made Jello.
Our afternoon was so fun. We ran errands and played/worked outside.
Lunch was green.
(Don't be deceived by the smile. Lucy was completely unimpressed by my makeshift shamrock quesadillas. Thought they just looked like hearts!! Sheesh! =) She was, however, impressed by the {horrible} Irish accent I used periodically throughout the day. "You know Irish?!"..."How did you learn that, Mom?!" =)
After lunch Lucy and Spencer decorated a few sugar cookies thanks to our cute neighbors...
...and sometime in the afternoon, they watched Pinocchio for the first time (Spencer: "I LOVE whales!!").
Pinocchio = totally unrelated to St. Patrick's Day.
Turns out we are kind of Disney loyalists.
But we weren't lacking in green.
I wore the green argyle socks Wes gave me for a birthday several years ago.
There were stickers and games, thanks to our cousins,
The ever popular Fruit Rainbow, and...
Pots of (cheddarandcauliflowersoup) Gold.
Lucy thought that was clever. (Few!)
We had to dash after dinner to make our evening's entertainment (stake roadshows). Spencer wanted to stay and eat his green jello (he'd been asking and waiting all day). "We'll eat it after the show!" I told him. That got him into the car, but when I pulled into the church parking lot (he must have expected a movie theatre!) he burst into tears! Made me laugh and laugh! He tears were readily dried,
and we had a great time at the event. Except for that one moment when a woman tapped my shoulder from behind and whispered, "he's pulling his pants down." I stared at her blankly until she motioned to Spencer, standing on the chair next to me. And yes. He was. "No!" I hissed at him fanatically, yanking up the back of his trousers. "No, no, no, and no. Do you need to use the restroom?" I whispered, wondering what had possessed him. "No," he whispered back, still watching the show intently, calm as a summer's morning.
???????
Only one thing is for sure: he couldn't have mooned a more receptive crowd than the cluster of 12 and 13 year old boys sitting behind us!
And with that, we called St. Patrick's day a wrap!
(He got his green jello before bed.)
(And the last thing I heard from Lucy's room was a distressed call, "Mom! We didn't catch a leprechaun!" =)
I tell ye, I am one lucky mother.

I love your celebrations! Even the rainbow of laundry. You are amazing and wonderful. Do you know that?
You are the cutest mom ever. I loved this, esp. the pots of gold soup :)

Ah, Lori, you have a little boy! McKay did the same pants bit last year...at one of Cory's work receptions to which we were invited...don't think we'll be invited back. :) Fun day...fun food!
Did you sing in your Irish accent too? I loved that little song. What a fun day--both Royce and I were working so wearing green was as festive as we got.
Ah....the LUCK of the Irish...and various uther little folk :)
You are amazing... even incorporating your laundry rainbow. Love you! I missed St. Patty's this year with my boys because I was out of town :(
What cute ideas! And Spencer cracks me up... that just made my day. :)
Cute! We do Lucky Charms too, it's a tradition from my childhood that's made it's way into our must-dos-or-the-kids-will-freak. :) Glad you had a fun St. Patty's Day!
What a fun day! I love the fruit rainbow....going to use that next year! Love you.
Maria (I know I'm on Rachel's account, I just don't feel like signing her out). :)
LOVE the rainbow of laundry! I thought it was just a beautiful creation your kids had made (not dirty laundry). :)
SO fun to see you at the road show. I'm glad Spencer got his green jello...they WERE so excited about it!
I love that your makeshift rainbows were in proper ROYGBV order. There's a reason we like Disneyland on a whole different level than everyone else.
I'm reading this thinking I need to make my kids life a little more magical! Way to go! And way to go to me... for totally forgetting it was St. Patricks day until dinner time. Oh dear me. I guess there is always next year.
That looks like so much fun. You are beautiful as are your children. I love the details of your day. From the rainbows, green food, impressions left on children and pants down. :)
Thanks for giving some insight to your day.
I giggled at the thought of Spencer pulling his pants down because Ella has been doing the same thing! Her latest audience... all those attending story time at the library... yikes!
Love how you make everything wonderful and special. Love that Spencer is a boy and can keep you on your toes! We need to play at some point soon. You need to teach me the fun activities you do on a daily basis!
ps. I smiled at the Spencer-pulling-his-pants-down story. Totally something James would do. In fact, he DID. On the side of the main road in our town... facing the road... just as a car full of people drove up. Awesome parenting moment :)
