If You Want To

We had a wonderful spring break.

A little of this, a little of that.

Including dinosaurs in pajamas,

orange fingernail polish,

Homemade bread,

Etc,

Etc,

So forth.

There were a few things out-of -the-ordinary.

A high chair in the kitchen???  Be still my beating heart!  We had an extra little buddy hang out with us for several days and it was great.

As in great fun (for Lucy), and great learning (for Spencer).  =)

I loved the tending like my girl...even though babysitting isn't the same as mothering...and I had kind of wanted it to be.

The other thing that pulled on the old heart strings a bit was a dinner party at Wyview (where Wes and I lived for five years before he passed away).

Was I justified in crying for the first fifteen minutes?
Happy and sad tears, both.
So many dear friends
So many memories

We couldn't leave without a little twilight romp in the courtyard.

Lucy ran around shouting things like, "I remember we used to come here with Dad!!!" and "Wooohooo!! I'm in my home!!"

It did feel like home.  It was all so familiar, still.  Those are hard feelings to manage.

But on the last day of spring break, we turned on some tunes for a quick clean up of our new  house(our thorough spring cleaning is...ah...yet to come).  Jack Johnson is usually Lucy's first choice.

Maybe it's up with the stars
Maybe it's under the sea
Maybe it's not very far
Maybe this is how it's supposed to be...

Looking forward as we rewind
Looking back is a trap sometimes
Being here is so easy to do

***If you want to***

Sure like those lyrics.
And sure love that line in Gilead that acknowledges,"there are many ways," (and contextually, that reads, "many [virtuous] ways," so please don't anyone be accusing me of moral relativism here!) "to live a good life."

Should we try that again?!  "There are many ways to live a good life."

I believe there are!
Many ways!
Different ways.
Different from each other.
Sometimes different from our own previous plans.

But, Maybe this is how it's supposed to be...

Hi Lori
What a beautiful post! I love how you acknowledge the tears but you dwell on the good. You really are such an inspiration to me-- you are a treasure! I'm in Utah today for BYU women's conference-- so fun to be here:) have a wonderful day with your two little angels!

The "and soforth" caught my attention. choice
I am hoping 'tears' are purifying.
Funny how a song will hit the mark sometimes.
Love you...Appreciating the 'different' ways to enjoy this old life. (There could be a LESSON in that for all of us.)

I guess I'm already emotional this morning, but this put it over the top. I know you've heard it before, but you are wonderful and amazing, Lori.

Hey Lori! If you really want a new header, I would be more than happy to try and make you one. Just let me know if you would like me to try my hand at it for you ;)

I sure am a sucker for Jack. It's usually Azure's top choice too :) Lucy and Spencer are sure blessed to have you!

Sure do love your posts. Reminds me of the need to remember and love those seemingly far-gone moments with loved-ones that we miss terribly much.
As someone else commented, "tears are purifying."
Thank you for the beautiful pictures! You have a nack (sp?) for getting millions of stories told in just one great picture! Keep it up!

Hi Lori, Your blog really uplifted me, thanks. You're clearly such a good person. You mentioned a few blogs ago about responding to Emily's note to Lucy. I don't think I sent a cover note explaining, so let me explain now. We were talking about you alot when Wes got really poorly and we sent you that little package. We thought it would be really nice for Emily to have a little pen pal, someone that has the same values as her (here the church is so small and the more friends that are members, the better.) But I appreciate the stamps aren't cheap, they could of course always do it the modern way, not that you can even force these things on our girls, but I konw Emily would enjoy getting and recieving notes, who doesn't? So there, I've explained myself. Sorry I didn't do it earlier.
Hope you have a great weekend. With love the Dockrills.
