You, You, and Me

The past few weeks have been packed with opportunities to hear from/ visit with family and long time friends.  So wonderful it has been.

After waving goodbye to the the most recent car load of beloved folk yesterday, Spencer took in the sudden silence for a moment and then said, looking from Lucy to me, "Well, it's just you, and you, and me."

I laughed and hugged him.  And her.  And felt a surge of gratitude that we are we.

I have more I need to write about last July.  But I wanted to post my remaining pics from this year's celebration.  There was a lot of  "you, and you, and me."

Which was just how I wanted it to be.
For months, I'd been hoping that we could spend the sentimental days surrounding the Fourth in Provo.  So on July 3 we hung our little flag on our little house...

And left!  To stay in another place that still feels like home (and I think always will).

We wore each other out with bat and ball and playground races:

on your mark,

get set,
go!

(I myself was a stiff competitor!)

And of course there was,

and,

We went to bed late that night.
And woke up early.

(snails were the only distraction from the balloon laden sky).

The rest of the day included a little of this,

a little of that (thanks Jeanine!),

Certainly more of this,

including friends,

 and (much needed) naps.

(nap to spencer means:  fingers in, fall asleep in five minutes.
nap to lucy means:  read The Friend from cover to cover.)

Then my sweet family came.  And met us in the mountains.  And I forgot to take Spencer's shoes.

Awesome.
For the record:  it was a long drive for my family.  And a hot day.  And a crowded canyon park.  I hadn't asked them to come.  But it meant the world to me that they did.  Which is to say nothing about the calls and messages from out-of-town friends and family all through the day.  How truly loved I felt.

Back from the canyon, we three bathed our smokey bodies, and took a happy, familiar walk to see the early fireworks in the sky.

 Dark finally came,

and we cozied up.

"You, you, and me"

(Until we finally found our friends!!)

(who we LOVE.)

The next day it rained (from the heavens and my eyes) as we walked a few more familiar paths before heading home

Together.
And that's maybe how we're going to have to spend every Fourth of July for the rest of forever.  ;)

To another place that feels like home and always will. I agree. I'm glad you had a beautiful day of celebration and family. I'm so glad that you were able to see your family and end the 4th with friends. I hope you will continue to have beautiful, celebratory days with him and her and you.

I've decided I can only read your blog late at night....in the silence when all are asleep because I just bawl my eyes out. You are a profound writer. Perhaps after your preschool dream is fulfilled you'll publish? :)

I so wish you lived in SLC so I could send my little Cecily to your preschool!!! I only know of two people who live in Payson....one with older children and the other....a young couple pregnant with their first. I will send them your way in about 3 years :)
