I was ready to go.
Had my car packed to the hilt with snacks and activities.
Was going to spend the night at my parents' and then leave at the crack of dawn.
Or preferably sooner.
12 hours isn't that long, I told myself.
My kids are great travelers, I told myself.
It will be no problem, I told myself.
But in the end, I didn't drive, myself.
Guess who did?
Guess who hung out alone for three days in California while my kids and I played with our friends at the beach, and went to fun restaurants, and sampled a million Martinelli flavors (more on that later)?
Guess who refused to even sleep at the beach house with us because he didn't want to "spoil the young-people party"?
Guess who drove us through a beautiful, tucked away piece of the redwood forest before driving us the 12 hours home?
Guess how much my dad loves me?
Guess how much I love him?
More than words can say.
(Dad taught Lucy about mile markers somewhere mid-Nevada. She tracked our progress by counted them pretty much the entire remaining trip.)
(I think I side with Spencer's choice of activities for passing time in the car.)
