Sweet childhood! This reminds me of that classic nearly-wordless French film, "The Red Balloon." Have you seen it? Has Lucy seen it? If not, go to the library and check it out!
hi Lori! I was linked to your blog through Nicole Kay - hope that's okay! I love reading your blog...it's so honest, so refreshing, so fun! I love the FHE stories. We have an (almost) 2 year old, and our FHE's go like this: Song (wheels on the bus, EVERY time), prayer, Pick a lesson from Ezra's nursery manual (usually about 3 minutes, less if his attn. span wanes!), and then a prayer. (sometimes dessert, sometimes not!) I've been wondering if this is enough for FHE, and then I realized it's about having fun as a family, and feeling the Spirit (can you do that in 3 minutes?) Anyway feel free to check out my blog, too. thehappysnap.blogspot.com Anne (Allen) Hall
Argh....I still haven't had time to read your comments on your family night blog. (and I've been wanting to) But I do have to say that I think you are doing awesome (no matter how low-key you think it may be) to be having family night every week! You are an inspiration! Keep it up!
Love the balloon! We just introduced Charlie to the wonder that is balloons last week. and I think you take cute pictures!
Lindsay - I have dim memories of The Red Balloon! Images that occasionally pop into my mind. We'll have to check it out!
Anne - so glad you found us! Love your simple FHE ideas (and we're all about wheels on the bus at this house!)
Stef and Jeanine - Magical is a good word. So many things about childhood are magical, huh?!
Em - Hooray for slightly warmer weather! (Lucy was acaully freezing at the end of this moment outside...but the balloon kept her distracted!)
Kate - I saw the pics of Charlie with the balloons on your blog (I haven't MEANT to be a stalker vs. commenter lately...it's just kind of happened! You know how it goes! Anyway, those pictures were DARLING and made me excited for Easter too!
Brent's Memorial day prayer before our BBQ at Grandpa's (too cold to swim!) pool
Mark's immediate offer to parallel park my car at the busy cemetary on Memorial day
Bruch with dear friends/old roommates! Thanks for tending, Royce!
The sweet friends who checked on us when we didn't show up at church (because of colds)
The way Wes's oversized fleece sweatshirt feels at the end of a long day
The wonderful neighbors who picked up Lucy from school when I couldn't find my car keys!
The feeling of spring breezing through the windows
Christmas shopping with my big sisters!
Lucy's daily choice of colorful, non-matching clothes
The sound of Lucy reading Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus to Spencer
Fixed sprinklers! Thanks Dad!!

Spencer (first words upon entering Mom's room in the morning): "Mom? How old are I?" Mom:"Three." "Three?" Spencer repeated blankly, "Still three?" 6/24/12
Spencer (during family night scripture stories, feeling concern for Abinadi'd death by fire): "I...I would just (quick hand motions + sound effects) smash that fire right out! If I had Mantis (think: Kung Fu Panda 2) 9/10/12

I love Lucy frolicking with the baloon! So sweet and innocent. There's just something magical about balloons and little children.
I love it! Children and balloons are especially magical.
It was warm enough to be out in just your shirt-sleeves AND you had a balloon? A "cheer"-ful day, indeed!

I love how easily entertained kids can be by the most simple things. Kate feels the same about balloons. Loves them! Hope ya'll are doing good. -Megg
