It was a beautiful Mother's Day. Spencer squawked through sacrament meeting. Lucy refused to go to sharing time alone, and instead of listening to the words of of my setting apart after church I steadied Spencer as he climbed rambunctiously on and off of my lap. But I mean no sarcasm. It really was wonderful! Mother's Day is the one day of the year when the all the stains and smudges seem like badges and medals. And I feel glad to wear them.
Plus I just love all the love. I love the phone calls, the hugs, the posts (hope you read Amy's and Jane's!), the e-mails -- all the woman-to-woman exchanges that are truly uniting. I love the humble men who say kind, sincere words about their mothers and wives. I love the homemade cards produced by primary children (there's one I'm particularly fond of). I love the doctrine of Motherhood and the reminder of women's divine, nurturing nature. I love the nine-months-pregnant friend of mine who taught our young women so effectively about motherhood this morning. I love the unmarried, childless friend of mine who made such thoughtful comments throughout the class.
I love Mother's Day.
But friends, it's time to talk about Mexico. I've waited too long already. My motivation has waned with each passing day. But when Wes hugged me in my blue linen dress this afternoon and murmured, "mmmmm, you smell like the cruise..." (where I last wore it)....mmmmm, all the memories surged a little.
Memories of the night we escaped a low quality after-dinner show and discovered a secluded haven of blue light and ocean breeze.
Memories of sunny beach days.
(Wes: reading scriptures. Me: playing with camera settings. I always said he was the righteous one in our relationship.)
It was in every way an affair to remember.
(Which movie we most certainly watched upon our return. Twice. =) Wes had never seen it.)

Love the first picture of you. You are getting too skinny!
Glad you had a wonderful mother's day... my mom said it's her favorite day of the year.
And the cruise. Oh it looks lovely. I can't wait to hear more.
oh you look gorgeous! (lori obviously. okay, you both do :)
you rode horses on the beach? Wow, that's a dream come true.
What's your new calling?
I love to ride on the beach! It is so much fun! Especially when you let your horse lope though the shallow water...(Guess I haven't ever done this next to the ocean, just on a lake, but it is still awesome...)
You guys look great. And the cruise looks fun! I am glad you guys got to go!
Wes has never seen An "Affair to Remember"???? Good thing you got him in the loop!
I love the man leaning to the right. I want everyone to know that the couple you see in these pictures was even MORE beautiful in person!!! (Testimony of a first-hand observer.)
And... I too want to know about the new calling.
I had the same thought as Jeanine. Look how thin you are girl! Looks like a lovely, romantic time.
No new calling, folks! Just finally getting set apart for the YW calling I got four months ago =)
And yes, horses on the beach = a dream come true.
Terry says he's saddened that you've already forgotten your snorkel companion.... all these pictures of Wes and he thought he was at least ummm... no. 2! So what were you set apart for and we want to hear about Wes' adventures at work.
Love these photos! Need to watch that movie again...
You are such a beautiful couple! What was the occasion for the cruise? Looks fun!
That looks awesome! Like Titanic, but without all the horrific death.
And for what it's worth Lori, I never would've known you lost weight. On the bright side, the converse is probably also true. If you decide to gain it back someday, you can rest assured that at least one person won't have any idea.
Such fun!! I love the pictures - Lori, not only are you a great writer but you're also a great photographer!?! I think you need to give lessons in awesomeness. :)
