A few weeks ago, my friend Lindsay posted a "texas (sized) travelogue" of her trip to San Antonio (Linds, too bad we missed each other by a week!).
I'm a month late posting about our trip! But as Lucy still talks about it every day ("Remember when we went to Texas?"), I thought we better make it an official part of the record.
You'll note that we drove (in my parent's snazzy little red mini-van).
You'll remember that we left Wes home to work.
And although we missed our daddy and thought of him every minute...(Did a gas station ever make you feel gushy and sappy inside? This was my first)
...it was SUCH FUN!
My kids are really great little travelers.

And I loved the five long car days of total togetherness.
There were dollar store toys aplenty.

Spencer liked to make his frogs fly (above) and to put them to sleep (below).
Lucy named her frogs Dill, Duff, and Watadat, respectively.
You already know we love our Toy Story friends!
(Still haven't seen the movie! It's killing us!)
And there were crayons, of course (still sorry about your seat-belt, Grandma and Grandpa!!). Lucy used hers in conjunction with a little geography lesson.
She spent at least a half an hour lifting flaps to learn about state birds and flowers.
And if you're trekking to Texas anytime soon, check out Roxie Munro's Inside-Outside book of Texas. The illustrations (fabulous!)...
...just might inspire a sudden streak of creativity!
Lucy designed boots and hats for hours.
At first she asked me to draw them, but by the end of the trip, she was a pro!
I love the striped heels.
Square Dancing was the most appropriate Hidden Picture print off I could come up with for our Texas trip.
And for those blessedly peaceful minutes while Spencer slept, we girls curled up with our books,
or sometimes played with last year's magnetic fruit trees (on a small, dollar store cookie sheet. Great idea, Amy!).
As much fun as we had in the car, it was always a treat to get out!
And it was most fun to get out at Uncle Mark's house!
To be continued...
(I was really going to try for just one, long post. But good grief!)

You must have posted this just for my benefit! I definitely have more hope about our upcoming trip. And I already thought about the cookie sheets...but don't they get hot?
I love that your activities were tx related...that is why you are fabulous!
Oh Lori! You are so darling. I was thinking about you today. Wishing that I was closer to learn more of your kind, beautiful ways of living.
So fun! Don't know if I could handle 5 car days! Bless your heart!
Amy Jean... if you want some good travel ideas I have a few links for you.
ps. That comment was from me! Whoops!
Copy away! :)
Too bad we just barely missed each other!
Speaking from a 'first-hand' car spectator in that busy little ride to and from Texas.....
Non of you can imagine how incredible it was....planned and executedly perfectly by the Mother of the Chicks.
(This old hen just cackled...)
Glad your road trip went so well! That is one long drive...
Mother Packer, you make me smile so much. And I think we would have had a lot less arguing on our trips if we had had such great, personalized activities.
