For Lucy

The snowflakes were falling fast yesterday morning.

You and I lingered at the front door, enjoying the spectacle.

I wondered if you would complain a little.  You've been loving this past week of almost spring, and sunshine is, truly, your element.  I've loved watching you buzz around monitoring the daffodils, creating a secret (shhhhh!) hideout between the AC unit and the back fence, collecting a million rocks.

But you didn't complain. Just looked at me with a wry smile and said (wisely), "I'm glad we went out yesterday instead of watching shows!"

You're such a good girl, Lucy Lu.

Several weeks ago you came home from school so excited.  There had been a "bonus buck" store, and you'd had sooooo much "money" to spend.  So you bought two of everything.

Spencer was, of course, so excited.  But I think you had the most fun showing/sharing.  After all the loot was unloaded, Spencer remembered he had something for you too.  I had cut up a box of strawberries for lunch and Spud had inhaled all of them but one.  Which he put back in the box to save for you.

You were sincerely grateful for the meager gift.
And my mother heart was as happy as a mother heart can be.

Before the sun melted our winter snow, you were playing doctor every day.

Which was delightful to watch.

Your office:

Your patients:

Notes:

Reminded me so much of these days
And if you keep reading the way you do (every minute), you may graduate from medical school at 13 (although we'd probably need to switch from Baby Sitters Club to anatomy to meet that goal. =)

("honey, put the book down and eat")

(do these books give anyone else serious nineties flashbacks?)

("honey, put the book down and get out the door!")

I so much love you, Little Girl.
So much.

Oh I just admire that Lucy girl so much. In fact, just before reading this post I was berating myself for having such a whiny/pouty attitude about the snow. So I decided to put on the Christmas music--it's helping a little, though it doesn't stir quite the same feelings of happiness and good-will as it does in November/December. Good for her for just being happy on her own!

Also, love that she's reading the Babysitters Club. Loved those books. I would go over to Kayla's house to play and we would just end up reading Babysitters Club books. It warms my heart to know that some kids still spend hours poring over books.

Oh how I love that Lucy girl! I love that your kids are always looking out for each other--the 2 of each prize and the last strawberry. Such sweet, sweet moments.
